AHEAD PDP PRIMARIES: Onuk calls for unity

The Executive Chairman of Itu Local Government Council; Hon. (Barr.) Etetim Onuk has called on the people to continue living in peace with each other, remain united and continue supporting the Governor Udom Emmanuel Peoples Democratic Party led administration in Akwa Ibom.

He made the statement on Tuesday at the Main Hall of Itu Local Government Council Secretariat, Mbak Atai Itam, during the Federal Constituency Sensitization tour to Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency by the Rt. Hon. (Elder) Aniekan Akpan led PDP State Executive.

Onuk who declared that he remains committed to the ideals of the party, added that Itu Local Government Area is a PDP enclave and that it will remain so as the people strongly believe in the completion agenda of the Akwa Ibom State Governor; Mr. Udom Emmanuel.

The Itu Council helmsman said he is confident that the forthcoming PDP primaries in the state will hold without any rancour. He maintained that as a family the PDP nomination exercise will be conducted peacefully and that the party will come out tops in the 2023 general elections, calling on all to continue supporting the party and ensure a seamless transition process.

In his remarks, the Akwa Ibom State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party; Rt. Hon. (Elder) Aniekan Akpan urged the party faithfuls to remain united and reiterated the party’s resolve to maintain a level playing ground for all aspirants before and during the primaries.

Hon. Akpan advised members of the party in Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency to ensure they take advantage of the ongoing voter’s registration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to avoid being disenfranchised. He also called on members to ensure they collect the new party membership card from their respective ward chairmen urging those who have not register to do so.

Speaking on behalf of the women, a former Secretary to the Government of Akwa Ibom State; Obonganwan Grace Ekong who reassured the State Chairman of the women’s support, said Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency should be carried along in the scheme of things.

Similarly, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information and Strategy; Comrade Ini Ememobong called for sustained inclusion of the Federal Constituency an assured the party of their support ahead of the 2023 elections.

ITU FIRST LADY FETES PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED PERSONS

 


As Christian across the world celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, wife of the Executive Chairman of Itu Local Government Council and founder/President of Learning Disabilities Society of Nigeria (LDS) Mrs. Imaobong Etetim Onuk, last week feted physically impaired trainees and persons to a lavish end of the year party.

 

Mrs. Onuk who was represented by a former supervisor for health in Itu Local Government Council; Dr. Daniel Umoren said the organization will continue to strive towards ensuring that people with disabilities are heard, live meaningful, rewarding and fulfilling lives. She noted that despite any form of physical incapacitation, every human being deserves to live well and contribute their quota towards their respective societal growth, adding that disabled person would excel in that regard when encouraged by others.


 

The Itu First Lady thanked members of the board of trustees, consultants, professionals’, volunteers, donors and staffs of LDS who continually make huge sacrifices towards serving the most vulnerable members of the community.

 

In his remarks, the Team Leader of LDS; Mr. Isaac J. Sam described 2020 as a challenging year, particularly because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the negative impact it had on global economy. He observed that despite the limitations the organization stood firm in caring for people with infirmities and ensured the susceptible are given fair chances to excel in their chosen vocation.

 

Learning Disabilities Society of Nigeria is a Non-Governmental Organization with the sole aim of improving the livelihood and development of people with Disabilities from the Ages of 8-25yrs, especially people with Down syndrome, Autism, Hyperactive Behavior, physical Impairment, Hearing and speaking Impairment and the likes, through the provision of literacy skills, entrepreneurial skills etc. Inmates are put through skills acquisitions of various kinds including hair dressing, Catering, shoe making, Bag making and Tailoring


 

Others who graced the end of the year party for physically challenged include: Mr Iyah Onuk; Mr. Solomon Etuk, Mrs. Eno Ekwere and the presenter of the programme ‘Beyond Barriers’; Mr. Ubong Udoh.

ITU LEADERS CALL FOR CONTINUED PEACE AND UNITY

 




Political office holders from Itu Local Government Area on Thursday called for concerted efforts towards ensuring that the people of the Area continue to live together in one accord and collectively actualize their dreams.

 

Addressing the crowd that gathered at Itu Local Government Secretariat, Mbak Atai for the end of the year/get together party, the Member representing Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency; Rt. Hon. Dr. Henry Archibong said peace and harmony remains a panacea to meaningful development.

 

Dr. Archibong lauded Governor Udom Emmanuel and the Itu Council Chairman; Hon Barr. Etetim Onuk for their effort towards a more peaceful Akwa Ibom State and Itu Local Government Area respectively. He particularly extolled the Akwa Ibom State First lady; Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel for ensuring that Akwa Ibom women – including those from Itu Local Government are carried along in the scheme of things.

 

Similarly, the Member representing Itu State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly; Hon. KufreAbasi Ediddem while delivering his message thanked the people for their continued support and thanked the Governor for citing key developmental projects in Itu Local Government, citing the recent commissioning of the dry bamboo tissue company as an example.

 

Meanwhile, the Executive Chairman of Itu Local Government Council; Rt. Hon. Barr. Etetim Onuk has called on the people of the area to emulate the ideals of love and sacrifice, in line with the season. He said it was necessary to appreciate God for his benevolence thus far, adding that the Get Together is their own little way of saying thanks you to the people of Itu Local Government for their sustained and unflinching support.

 

The Leader, Itu Legislative Council; Hon. Mrs. Favour Ubaha who spoke on behalf of Honourable Councilors charged the people to remain united and support the government at all levels, a position which was corroborated by a former Council boss; Hon. Okon Etim Okon and Obonanwan Deborah Ekpe in their respective goodwill messages.

 

Highpoint of the event was the presentation of cash and other items to be shared across the 11 wards in the Local Government.

WORLD HUMANITARIAN DAY: NORSEMEN VISIT IK PRISON, DONATE EDIBLES, TOILETRIES OTHERS

As part of events to commemorate the 2018 world Humanitarian Day, members of De Norsemen Kclub Incorporated (DNKI), Akwa Ibom State Chapter have donated edible items as well as disinfectants and toiletries to inmates of the Medium Security Prison in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area. This was preceded by a thanksgiving service at the Living Faith Church(Winners Chapel) Itiam Edem Akai Assembly.While presenting the items to the prisoners on Sunday, 19 August 2018, the Guv'nor, DNKI, Akwa Ibom State Chapter, Dr. David Umoh stated that The World Humanitarian Day is set aside by the United Nation Organization to honour humanitarian personnels and charity workers who paid the supreme prices in the line of their charitable duties. He noted that as an organization whose motto reads; "service to humanity" the Norsemen Kclub remain committed to serving the society and giving hope to the hopeless and defenseless.Dr. Umoh said the sharp increase in the population of young men and women serving in different prisons accross the nation is worrisome and advised the inmates to be of good behaviour while serving their respective terms and ultimately come out of the correctional facility reoriented and avoid acts that could redirect then to similar confinements in future. He observed that a complete rehabilitation is the only way to speed-up re-integration process when they eventually walk free.Similarly, the Secretary of the organization in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Joseph Emah noted that irrespective of what led to their incarceration, the most important thing is for them to use the period they would spend in prison for sober reflections and look up to God for strength and courage to surpass their present condition.
A Deputy Controller of Prisons Mr Stanley Njoku who was on hand to welcome members of DNKI to the facility also received the items on behalf of the inmates and thanked the organization for the donation. Also, an inmate who spoke on behalf of the rest, thanked members of De Norsemen Kclub for their benevolence and for remembering those living behind bars. He used the opportunity to appeal to the Judiciary and State Government to be merciful and grant some of them reprieve.
Items donated include; Bags of garri, rice and salt, cartons of pastas, bathing soap and washing detergents, as well as several litres of disinfectants and tissue papers.

WORLD HEALTH DAY CELEBRATION: De Norsemen Kclub Urge AKS Govt to Assent To Pending Health Bills

The Guv'nor of De Norsemen Kclub Incorporated (DNKI) Akwa Ibom State Chapter, Dr. David Umoh JP FCAI, has called on the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel to validate health Bills  passed by the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKHA) since 2017. The call was made, during a one day free medical screening exercise organized by the organization, to mark the 70th World Health Day Celebration on Saturday.

Dr. David Umoh, a medical doctor, said the ratification of pending health Bills would further enhance primary health care delivery and complement the administration's laudable effort in raising the standard of secondary health care facilities across the State.  He declared that De Norsemen Kclub Incorporated, has joined the WHO's call on leaders to live up to the Sustainable Development Goals, set in 2015 to ensure 'Universal Health Coverage For everyone, everywhere' which is the theme of this 70th year anniversary. He said there is need for government to do more to ensure that every one, every where should have access to basic and affordable health services.

He urged the Akwa ibom state Governor to give more attention to the primary health care system, and assent to the 'Bill for the Establishment of the Akwa Ibom State Primary HealthCare Development Agency' and 'A Bill for the Establishment of Akwa Ibom State Health Insurance Scheme', passed by the AKHA last year..

The Immediate past International President of DNKI, Chief Dr. Tony Eteng, who was the Chairman of the occasion, commended members of the organization in Akwa Ibom State, for putting together the exercise, noting that giving back to the society is one of the fundamental tenets of the Social Charity organization' whose motto reads; 'Service To Humanity'. Another member of the organization, Mr. Jones Akpan said the important of early diagnosis in disease management cannot be overemphasized and commended those who took advantage of the rare opportunity to know their health, free of all charges.

The guest Speaker at the event, and Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Akwa Ibom State/South-South, Dr. Aniekeme Uwah, commended the Guv'nor and members of De Norsemen Kclub, for organizing the free medical exercise for residents of Akpasak estate Community and said NMA is ready to collaborate with De Norsemen Kclub, in the sustained campaign for the provision of essential and affordable health care.

One of the beneficiaries of the free screening exercise and a member of the Akpasak Estate Landlords Association, Mrs. Mary Edem Akpan, applauded the leadership and members of De Norsemen Kclub, for being good neighbours, adding that the event is the first of its kind in that neighborhood. She said she will be glad to witness more of such gesture.

Services rendered at the event include; Blood pressure measurement, deworming of children  aged between 1-12 years, Blood sugar check, HIV counseling/testing and urine analysis.
