As Christian across the world celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, wife of the Executive Chairman of Itu Local Government Council and founder/President of Learning Disabilities Society of Nigeria (LDS) Mrs. Imaobong Etetim Onuk, last week feted physically impaired trainees and persons to a lavish end of the year party.
Mrs. Onuk who was represented by a former supervisor for health in Itu Local Government Council; Dr. Daniel Umoren said the organization will continue to strive towards ensuring that people with disabilities are heard, live meaningful, rewarding and fulfilling lives. She noted that despite any form of physical incapacitation, every human being deserves to live well and contribute their quota towards their respective societal growth, adding that disabled person would excel in that regard when encouraged by others.
The Itu First Lady thanked members of the board of trustees, consultants, professionals’, volunteers, donors and staffs of LDS who continually make huge sacrifices towards serving the most vulnerable members of the community.
In his remarks, the Team Leader of LDS; Mr. Isaac J. Sam described 2020 as a challenging year, particularly because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the negative impact it had on global economy. He observed that despite the limitations the organization stood firm in caring for people with infirmities and ensured the susceptible are given fair chances to excel in their chosen vocation.
Learning Disabilities Society of Nigeria is a Non-Governmental Organization with the sole aim of improving the livelihood and development of people with Disabilities from the Ages of 8-25yrs, especially people with Down syndrome, Autism, Hyperactive Behavior, physical Impairment, Hearing and speaking Impairment and the likes, through the provision of literacy skills, entrepreneurial skills etc. Inmates are put through skills acquisitions of various kinds including hair dressing, Catering, shoe making, Bag making and Tailoring
