The Speaker of the State
House of Assembly Rt. Hon (Elder) Samuel Ikon has promised to strengthen
existing relationship between Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and the Uganda
Parliament.
The Speaker who stated
this when he received visiting Ugandian Parliament who are on a working tour of
the State maintained that the two parliament have a lot in common. The Speaker
while commending the delegation from Uganda for choosing Akwa Ibom State for
the tour, briefed them on the activities of the 5th assembly saying
the incoming Assembly will have enough to build on.
The Speaker promised
that the 5th Assembly will not relax in giving the best to the
service of the state and those that gave them the mandate and used the
opportunity to encourage people to always seek to know the existing laws to
enable them face any situation in their day to day activities.
Earlier, the leader of
the delegation Hon Elijah Okupa, a Member of Parliament representing Kasiro in
Eastern Uganda and Commissioner at the Uganda Parliamentary commission said the
visit to Ibom State House of Assembly was by the Ugandian Parliament is to
share experiences between the two legislature. Hon Okupa said their visit has
accorded them opportunity to physically see and feel those things they watched
on television and read about Akwa Ibom on the internet.
Hon Okupa who is
representing his constituency in the parliament on opposition party of Forum
for Democratic Change (FDC) said he was impressed with the passage and signing
of anti Gay Law in Nigeria by the Government. He said even with the different
political parties in the Ugandian parliament they are able to work together and
deliver on their mandate. Hon Okupa also said their visit will avail them the
opportunity to witness how committee of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly
carry out its oversight functions and a lot of other parliamentary practices.
Hon. Okupa thanked the
government of Akwa Ibom State for the aged long cordial relationship with
Uganda. The visitors were taken round some facilities in the assembly complex.
