The State Government has called on boundary communities
between Abia State and Akwa Ibom State to cooperate with the National Boundary
Commission (NBC) currently in the field tracing exercise for peace and harmony
to thrive.
The State Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State
Boundary Committee, Lady Valerie Ebe, stated this in Bende Local Government
Area of Abia State during a meeting between the two states and NBC.
Lady Ebe stressed the need for the border communities to
sheath their sword and allow peace to reign and support the Federal Agencies
with adequate inputs that would put an end to further boundary skirmishes.
The Deputy Governor reminded the people of the age long
co-existence as kith and kins, in-laws and friend and urged the people to
uphold the virtue of love and mutual co-existence and not to allow greed compel
them to shift the hedge.
Sir Emmanuel Ananaba, the Deputy Governor of Abia State,
condemned, in strong terms, the incessant boundary crises between the two
states and called for a reconsideration of the contentious portions for peace
to prevail.
Sir Ananaba cautioned that any breach of peace in the
community, Local Government Council Chairmen and Traditional Rulers would be
held accountable.
The leader of the Technical Team and representative of the
Surveyor General of the Federation, Surveyor Soji Alade, sued for cooperation
to enable the team address the contentious issues and to provide honest and
useful inputs to aid the team in the discharge of their duties and assured the
two states of the NBC’s commitment to ensuring a fair and logical conclusion of
the field exercise.
Speaking, the Chairman of Ini Local Government Council, Mr.
Etetim Anwatim, expressed appreciation to the Federal and State Governments for
the commitment to ensure that peace returns to all the border communities in
the country, particularly that of Abia and Akwa Ibom States.
He said as one of the border Local Government Council,
incessant border crises had affected development as well as human empowerment.
