ITU PEOPLE REAFFIRM THEIR SUPPORT FOR GOV AKPABIO …Insist On Zoning


The people of Itu Local Government Area have reaffirmed their support for the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State; Chief (Dr.) Godswill Obot Akpabio, stating that they will support his plan to handover to a Governor from Eket Senatorial District.
This was made know during a meeting held on Friday, February 7. 2014. In Itu. Speaking at the event, the convener Hon. Akan Essien, a former councilor in Itu noted that it was necessary to reaffirm their support for Governor Akpabio saying he has not disappointed the people of Itu.
Akan noted that Itu people has always been carried along in the present administration, calling on all son and daughter of Itu to remain faithfull to theAkpanio led government, urging them to support the zoning principle, as it is the only way equity and justice will be sustained.
Also speaking at the event, Prince Ekpekpe Atakpa commended the convener , adding that he was impressed by the caliber, he also said the people of the Local government are grateful to Governor Akpabio for all he has done for the people of Itu adding that the Local government must be prominently know as an advocate of power shift to Eket Senatorial District.
Hon. Offiong  Essien and Hon Mfon James, in their separate submissions called on all sons and daughters of Itu to support the governor’s succession plan, pledging total followership and loyalty to Governor Godswill Akpabio.
In his remark, Hon. Jonah Etim also solicited for a unified front that will ensure a smooth transmission of power to their brother in Eket senatorial District, he opined that since Uyo Senatial District, had their turn in 1999, and Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District is currently in power, it is expedient to support Eket Senatorial  District.
The high point of the event was the reading and adoption of the communiqué;  the people of Itu collectively  commended Governor Akpabio for the projects cited in Itu, they unanimously “total Support’ to the administration. They added that they have not endorsed any candidate, even as they pledge to follow the path of “equity, Justice and good conscience,” by supporting anyone the Governor will endorse from Eket Senatorial District.
The people also vowed to abide by the PDP’s zoning principle, as enshrined in the constitution of the party, by supporting Eket Senatorial District to produce a Governor, come 2015. They also declared their support for President Goodluck Jonathan’s second term bid.
