INFORMATION COMMISSIONER DECRIES MALICIOUS TEXT MESSAGES

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah has decried the spate of malicious bulk text messages targeted at maligning the image of the State and the person of Governor Godswill Akpabio.

Speaking in his office recently, Mr. Umanah observed that the text messages, regularly forwarded to subscribers of different mobile telephone networks in the State, often in the names of OWOETTE, MBIAM,OBU,UDUAKABASI and AKS 2015, are the handiworks of political cowards, whom he said have been identified through investigations.

He however challenged the sponsors of the text messages, also aimed at provoking ethnic disharmony in the State, "to come into the open if they are man enough and have genuine cause to pursue".

The Commissioner advised citizens to disregard the contents of such text messages and continue to remain loyal to Chief Godswill Akpabio, whose administration, he said, "has engendered uncommon transformation through the provision of landmark infrastructure and unparalleled human capital development in the State."

In the interest of sustainable peace and development, the information boss called on those bent on causing disaffection among the citizens to "turn a new leaf and look up to God alone and court the goodwill of Akwa Ibom people, if they hope to achieve their political ambitions," as according to him, "only God and the people can determine who wins election at any level."

Rather than be distracted, Mr. Umanah said, "Chief Akpabio is resolved to continue to work for the peace, progress and further development of Akwa Ibom and the people who freely gave him their mandate to be Governor."
