A youth activist, Mr. Tom FredFish  has accused The Hounorable Commissioner for Information and Telecommunications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah of blackmail  and unpatriotic behavior. This was contained in an open letter, to Mr. Umanah,  by FredFish.
In a phone chat with Mr. Fish, he disclosed that the recent attacks on his person, through paid advertisement was as a result of his resolve to say the truth, stating that after the unpopular publication on the pages of Tell Magazine in 2011. He decided to seek redress in court for an attempt by a media House to tarnish the image of the Akwa Ibom State Governor; Chief (Dr.) Godswill Obot Akpabio, pointing out that the Commissioner had failed to do the needful.
He particularly expressed his displeasure over what he called “calculated attempt” to smear his impeccable reputation,  maintaining that  almost a year after he went to court, Chief Godswill Akpabio, called him and urged him on in the TELL case with the promise to support and pay the legal fees, maintaining that by the underlined statement made by Aniekan Umanah’s, through paid advert,  he has called the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief (Dr.) Godswill Akpabio an accomplice in the act of extortion.
“ I did not envisage that you had other clandestine plans to outmaneuver me out of the case for financial benefit. You knew I had made impact which impressed the governor, so you blackmailed me so that the governor would forgo his support for me without knowing your grand plot was for selfish reasons; making money.” he stated.
He used the opportunity to apologize to the Press Secretary to the Governor; Pastor Anietie Ukpe for what he said was a mistake, arguing that  as published in his open letter to the Honourable Commissioner, the phrase “. Ukpe, whose difference from you is only in the title “Pastor”, was not meant to insult or tarnish his image but that what he really meant was that Ukpe was different and that as a pastor, he is morally upright, stating that any inconvenience caused by the publication is highly regretted.
However, In a release from the ministry of Information, the allegations against the commissioner was dismissed, describing them as false.
