A US based Mechanical Engineer, Dr. Effiong Assam Ntekim has
blamed the political ineffectiveness in Nigeria on greedy politicians.
Ntekim who made the declaration on Tuesday in Eket, said politics and Its essence are bound to fail if people aspiring for political offices have self enrichment as the motivating factor.
He opined that the recent decamping from PDP to APC, by some party faithful stems from greed; he accused some Nigerian politicians of giving up when selfish interest are not met. "Whenever some Nigerians cannot find themselves at the apex, they quit. Politics should be based on credibility and a right heart motivation to reduce the plight of the people and not to enrich yourself". He stated
Ntekim, a PhD holder in Mechanical Engineering who has devoted over 21 years in the Oil and gas, Aero Space, space engineering and the likes, in the United States of America, said having been actively involved in US politics, he has also studied and realized why politics fail in Nigeria and what could be done to improve it.
He pointed out that with his in-depth skills and experience in strategic initiative to problem solving, he has decided to respond to his people's call to run for governorship position in Akwa Ibom State, with a short term goal of creating employment to the rural populace through small scale businesses, aiming at transforming the state to an industrial hub within four years. He promised to build on the already laid foundation if given the opportunity.
"I am an innovative and proven leader with 21 years of progressive experience in upstream oil and gas, offshore engineering and management roles leading highly successful field development, acquisition, explorations and commercial projects as a consultant".
"I am also a strong value-driven thinker in business development, collaborative decision maker with a strong knowledge-based in technical, operational, political and commercial aspects of business. I equally posses a sound track record of success in start up, turn around, and growing business opportunities". He said.
For sustainable, the Engineering Don said he intends to go beyond Nigerian approach to issues by creating research and development units which would assist government ascertain the functionality of certain policies before implementing them, if voted to power, come 2015.
He therefore assured that issues like Education, Industrialisation, Electricity, rural development and employment will be given serious attention in the state. Adding that as an oil producing state, he will use his experience in the oil and gas sector to ensure that multi-nationals operating in the state are attentive to their corporate social responsibilities.
